Course Summary

Never thought your little ones could code? Kids as young as 5 get to program a robot to boogie and code a game or animation on an iPad! Unleash your child’s full creative potential by exploring the wonders of tech. Inventing the future starts right here!

Say hi to BeeBot!

BeeBot’s an award-winning little robot that teaches young kids programming concepts, directional skills, math and more. Kids learn to build on their critical thinking and literary abilities by programming BeeBot to…

Dance and draw cool geometrical shapes

Complete an obstacle course that kids will get to design themselves.

Next, kids will explore a different kind of app-enabled robot: Sphero Mini

Sphero Mini is a programmable robot ball that can be controlled using various data like motion, sound and coding blocks. Kds will learn how different inputs translate into programming a robotic ball to move. They will also learn about LED lights in the Sphero mini, and will even learn how art and robotics come together in a paintball experiment with Sphero mini!

To cap it off, kids will translate the tangible programming concepts they’ve learned onscreen with Scratch Junior. Kids will get to play with the introductory programming language specially designed for young children, learning how to code on an iPad by snapping together programming blocks to create…

Interactive animations where characters come to life, games, and more!

Kids are just like sponges – the younger they are, the more they absorb. In this fun and interactive course, kids get an introduction to computational thinking through hardware and software programming. By being exposed to technology early, kids also learn to become creative thinkers and develop problem solving skills!

Point

1

For kids with no programming experience, take your first steps into the world of digital literacy with a balanced mix of tangible programming & on-screen programming.

Point

2

Build on basic numeracy and literacy skills, discover the magic behind simple programming algorithms and animate your very first characters!

Point

3

Get hands on – design an obstacle course for Beebot and make it come to life, ‘write’ your first code on an iPad with Scratch Junior, and much more!

Point

4

On the last day of class, share your learnings and projects with your parents and friends!

What You'll Learn

Discover the magic behind simple programming algorithms while building on your basic numeracy and literacy skills:

  • Code BeeBot the robot and make it come to life
  • Design an obstacle course for Beebot
  • Learn how to code on an iPad!

Draw on your creativity and imagination to make magic with your code:

  • Animate characters
  • Code up your own game or animation

And of course, you’ll take away life skills that’ll serve you well on the adventure of life, including:

  • Creative confidence
  • Self-directed learning
  • Presentation skills

Sample Lesson Flow

Part

1

Introduction and ice-breakers, or a recap of the content covered on the previous day

Part

2

Learn about new concepts in programming, explained by your instructor in engaging, interactive ways

Part

3

Sandbox time! Students are put to the test to apply the concepts they’ve learned through fun challenges, like building their very own tech-powered creations. As part of this they go through the processes of planning, making, iteration, and sharing what they’ve made with their classmates and getting feedback from their instructors and peers.

Part

4

To end off the lesson, students work on their individual projects that they’ll present to their parents, instructors will recap the day’s learning, or kids might take part in an interactive quiz to find out how much they’ve understood the day’s new learnings! Students are also encouraged to practice responsibility by packing up and cleaning up their work space.

"This is the first time I signed my children up for the course. They enjoyed it and asked to go back again. The teacher has been patient and friendly with the kids to make the class a fun learning place."

What Comes After

Through Take Off with Beebot, littleBits & Scratch Junior, little ones get their first taste of the wonders of programming! Next, kids take their learning to the next level in Tiny Techies 2: Fly High with Beebot and Scratch Junior where they’ll apply what they’ve learned to solve complex puzzles, work in teams, and get creative with their very own coding project!
